Hello, this is Russ with the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective. Online at slcbikecollective.org. I'm also here on behalf of Expert Village and today I'm going to give you a little bit of information about tires today. Let's say that you have a twenty-six inch tire which is a pretty common tire. You're going to find that number on the side of the tire. There are two things to be mindful of. One of them is that often that number will be a fractional number if you have an older style bike, that fractional number means that it is an older style tire and specific to whatever rim you might have. On a mountain bike tire, that number is actually going to be with some kind of decimal in it So 2.2. So you want to make sure that you have the right size tire. These two numbers are not the same. They're not interchangeable. A quarter inch is not the same as .25 in the bike world, so make sure that you talk with your bike shop and get the right tire. There are two kinds of tires out there. Often on your older bike that you might have had, the common size is 27 by an inch and a quarter which is located on the side of the tire here and you just want to make sure that you look at that number and confirm what size you have. The more common popular size now which looks like the same size but is actually a little bit different is what they call 700c. That number is also located on the side of the tire and normally resembles 700 by some other number, so 700 by 25c. 700 is the diameter and 25 is actually the width, so a smaller, skinnier tires is going to give you a little bit faster rolling. And there's tires out there now like this as well that have reflective sides on it to make it a little bit safer to travel on the road.
