Hi, I'm Amelia and on behalf of Expert Village, I'll be talking to you about understanding the laws of hair color. The biggest mistake I see as far as retouches go is every time they just retouch their hair they just dump the color all over. You don't want to do that because what happens is these ends start to get too dark. The hair at the root does not get covered well. And you get light roots and dark ends, and that's not the way hair color should be. I'm sure we've all seen that walking around the mall. Some old lady walking around with her black ends, and the roots are white. That's not what you want. So when you're retouching your hair, always start, part off your hair in sections and always start by just applying it to the root. You just apply it, and you section your hair off, and you don't try to slap it all over. You just take fine partings, and just apply it. You do this throughout your head and then let it process the full amount of time. About five minutes before, if you feel like your ends are a little faded, you can mulcify it through, add some water to your ends, and add some water to the color and just sort of pull it through. Another thing you can do is, after you've applied it all over, you can take a little bit of the color, and just sort of run it through to the ends, but not all over. And what you'll get is a nice highlighted look, with not having to pay for it. So just apply it to the roots, you can either pull it through in certain spots, or about the last five to fifteen minutes you can mulcify it to through the ends. Another technique is you don't touch it, and when you're shampooing your hair, you shampoo it and just let it sit kind of all over for a few minutes. And that's another way just to sort of tone the over lightened ends, because sometimes, especially in the summer, they'll get really light pieces, and the ends will start to get like a little frayed looking. And when you retouch the color it makes it so much more shinier and healthy looking. A lot of the colors on the market now contain a tone of conditioners and conditioning agents, and sometimes you can tell when you need your hair colored because it starts to look dried and dull, and it loses its shine. And then after you color it, it's so shiny and soft. So it's good to keep your hair fresh. You don't want to let that retouch line, you don't want to let your regrowth get any more than a half inch, because anytime you start getting more than that, besides it just looking bad, you're also going to get a band, where this will lift and deposit perfectly, but you'll get like this band where the heat stops, and you'll start moving into the midshaft, and you'll get a nice band of color. Especially if you're lightening your hair from like a dark color to a blonde, it doesn't work well. So always make sure than when you retouch, you at least have a half inch of roots, no more no less. Just hit the new growth. Last five, ten minutes you can pull it through, or you can pull it through in sections to get a highlighted look. And with those tips you should have no more dark ends.
