The Second Rule of Hair Coloring

Hi, I'm Amelia and on behalf of Expert Village, I'll be talking to you about understanding the laws of hair color. The second rule of color is that you need to do your homework. In other words, if you're a level one, and you're wanting to be a level ten, you're going to really have to go to the salon for that. But if you're a level one, and you only want to go up to like let's say a level four, then that's no problem, that you can easily do at home. Another thing you're going to want to do is you're going to want to figure out what you want to use. Are you going to want to use permanent color? If you're going lighter you're going to have to use a permanent color. Are you going to want to use a deposit-only? If you're going darker, or just wanting to change the tone of your hair, example, if you're a blonde and you just want to maybe add some caramel to the hair or make it a little bit darker blonde, you could use a deposit-only, or a semi-permanent. If you want to cover just a few baby greys that you have maybe right in the front, then a semi-permanent would be fine. Also you're going to want to go to the store and check out the different brands and see which brands you're going to want. At the stores today you can get brands that are four dollars, and then I've seen brands as much as twenty-five dollars. So you kind of need to figure out what brands you're going to want to use. Personally, I like the colors brands that have the oil in with the color. It adds a lot more moisture to the hair, those are my favorites. Also you're going to want to take into consideration your skin color, your eyebrow color, and all of that. If you're naturally really dark, and you want to go lighter, you have to take into consideration your eyebrows. Are they also dark? If they are you may have to lighten them, or you may have to take them really thin so that way you can color them with a pencil, and it sort of lightens the tone a little bit. If you're really blonde and you want to go extremely dark, like let's say a blonde going to a black, then again you're going to want to take into consideration your eyebrows, your skin color. Is that going to wash you out? Or is that going to make your eyes pop? It could go either way. So there's a lot involved when choosing the right hair color. You really do need to think more along the lines of what kind of maintenance is this going to be for me? How much is going to be involved, and what should I use, and what color do I want to be?
