Defend at Medium Range in Filipino Martial Arts

JOHN BROWN JR.: My name is John Brown, and now I'm going to show you a little bit about the medium range. The medium range is I don't have time when he attacks to get out of range and counter-cut, or maybe I'm backed against the wall, I don't have that choice right now. So my reaction now is to deal with the attack in whatever manner that you know from whatever system that you practice. So he feeds me a number one. I cut, cut, thrust, cut and finish at a medium range. Again, I don't have time to react. I cut, cut, cut. You can just keep thrusting, batter up his hand and finish at a medium range. So that's the way to work your medium range. You can work inside. I can work outside. I can work my split entries. So now we free float, working our medium range, standard grip, reverse grip.
