Retirada with a Sheathed Shortsword

JOHN BROWN JR.: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is John Brown. And we're going to do Retirada using a live blade with a sheath on it for safety purposes. It's good to train as many ways as possible. This way, it's a more controlled training method. Right now, I'm using my sheath 'cause sometimes you don't have a training blade, and so they would just train with their actual blade with the sheath on it. So as he feeds, I work my Retirada, but now it's more realistic 'cause I'm using my sword or my short sword, my machete, bolo. Still working upward cut, upward cut, thrust, follow up. So I can still touch as long as this sheath will protect my training partner. I can also take it, the sheath, out. I have to be a lot more careful, and I can't touch as much at all because this will cut him. That's how to work Retirada with a live blade.
