JOHN BROWN JR: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is John Brown. And now, I'm going to show you some basic bolo, short sword and stick fighting techniques. This is called Retirada. It's from Bahad Zubu, which means stick and blade fighting arts from the Philippine archipelago. This motion, I start with my lead, my right hand, my right leg forward, blade or stick pointing at my opponent or target. I step back and cut upwards. I step forward and cut upwards again. So I get out of range, cut up. Come back into range, cut up again. You're working in the area this way. Be careful when training with a live blade. The steel can cut you, but it is also good to practice with what you would carry in an actual combat. Retirada.
