How to Pass a Football on the Strong Side

Hi, this is Sean Hobson for Expert Village. What we want to talk about right now is the proper technique if our quarterback is chased out of the pocket, we want him to be able to throw on the run. A lot of times, your defensive backs, once they see the quarterback scrambling, they'll start coming up the field, and if he can throw good off the run a lot of times he's going to make complete passes down the field. So the main thing is, once he's first chased out of the pocket, if the defense is coming, we want him to run but keep his shoulders and all his attention downfield. We don't want him to just turn his head and run. So, as he's running he's looking up field. He's keeping the ball high. We want him to take the proper steps. Now, as he finds a receiver downfield, what we want him to do is to take the proper steps forward. He never wants to throw the ball off of his back foot coming backwards. We want him to step towards the throw and carry on through just like he would if he was throwing out of the pocket. So, let's do this at full speed, show you what it looks like. Now this is when he's chased out to the strong side. "Good." You saw that he was chased out, before he drew the tackle he was able to step up, make a nice throw and go ahead and carry on with the play and not take that sack and cost us a loss.
