Hi, this is Sean Hobson for Expert Village. What we want to talk about right now is the proper technique in order for our quarterback to avoid a sack. One thing a quarterback can do effectively is when he fells pressure coming from the outside, we don't necessarily want him to run wide and try to escape the pressure. Sometimes the best thing he can do is, especially if he's got a lot of pressure coming in, there's probably going to be somebody open. We don't ever want him to lose his vision upfield. We don't want him to look at the guys coming in. We want him to stay focused down the field. If he looks straight down the field, he can use his peripheral vision to see the outsides and to feel the blitz. So, what we want him to do is, we want him to keep his proper balance and we just want him to simply step up in the pocket and let that outside rush go ahead and carry around him. He can step up inside the pocket and go ahead and make his throw and we don't lose a bunch of yardage. So, this is kind of what it looks like whenever our quarterback steps up in the pocket. "Good." You see he steps up in side, he lets the defense go on out around him, he steps up where he's secure and he makes the pass. All good quarterbacks have a good pocket presence and are able to step up and make good throws when pressure's coming from the outside.
Nice basic explanation but as a coach I can't help noticing those shirttails hanging out. It might be old school but when your players look sloppy, your coaching is undermined.
