The Difference Between Its & It's: Improve Your Writing

Hi, I'm Kari Wethington for expertvillage.com Today we are going to talk about ways to instantly improve your writing. Now that we talked about an overview of simple ways to sound smarter in your writing, let's talk about three specific rules to keep in mind. Things that every writer should know first let's talk about its verses it's. Many writers get confused on its and whether to use an apostrophe or not. So here we have our first example "Its hot outside today", this was wrong we need to actually it is, the contraction which is it's like we have here. It's hot outside today which it is hot outside today. The second example is we have "the dog always knows how to find it's way home an here we have it as a contraction so if you read it out load "the dog always knows how it find it is way home which makes no sense. So the correct version of this is "the dog always knows how to find its way home. An easy way to know the difference between its and it is is if you think it needs an apostrophe it should also make sense as it is in the sentence. So try that out and if doesn't work then it does not need the apostrophe.
