You also want to let your natural voice shine through. Don't force any styles or big words or fancy language. Always stick to who you are and the writing that you know best. It's great to try to make that a little more interesting fun as you progress as a writer. But when you are just starting, it's okay just to be yourself. Just remember that you are trying to clean up your writing, sound a little smarter more put together but you are not trying to be another writer. You always want to be yourself. For instance, if your favorite writer is Jon Gresham, you don't want to try to be Jon Gresham in your writing cause it's not ever going to work. The point of these tips and techniques is to be a better smarter sounding writer but it's not to change the voice that you naturally have as a writer. So keep that in mind as you are editing.
