Red Flags to Watch for to Improve Your Writing

Hi, I'm Kari Wethington for expertvillage.com. Today we're going to talk about ways to instantly improve your writing. When you are rereading your own work, here are three things to keep in mind that should be red flags, whether it's an email or a letter or anything else. If you only had one big block of text, one really long paragraph, that should be a red flag. You should always break your ideas into smaller paragraphs. It keeps the mind flowing down the page and it keeps the reader interested. Also look out for repetitive sentences, repetitive points. You don't want to restate your case too many times. Make sure you say something clearly, get your point across and move on. People will get bored if you just keep restating the same thing over and over. Just like long paragraphs. Also, make sure you don't use too long of sentences. People will get lost in your train of thought and not get the point you're trying to make. So make sure your sentences get your point across but aren't rambling. Just to reiterate, those three main red flags to watch out for are big blocks of texts, long paragraphs, repeating yourself, and long sentences.
