Elbow Strike in Shorin-Ryu Karate

How are you doing? My name is Sensei Qaeem on behalf of Expert Village. I’m going to be demonstrating Shorin-Ryu karate. In this segment, we’re going to be demonstrating the elbow strike. In the elbow strike, you simply want to just make sure you are in a comfortable stance. What you want to do is you are going forward. You are going towards your target. You want to go forward, you want to come up, make sure your elbow is straightforward, your hand should be right here behind your ear. So, you are simply in the back stance, simply walking forward, strike and strike. We’re going to start that all over again to make sure you are comfortable when you strike. You are coming up hand behind your ear. Up, notice this hand is coming down while this hand is coming up. Now, what I’m going to do right now, I’m going to demonstrate the elbow strike on my partner here is Mohammed. Mohammed is going to get in his fighting stance. Now, I can’t elbow strike here. What you want to do is you want to move his hands to sideways and then come in. Move his hands to the side, want to block out, come in with the elbow strike. 1, 2. Now with elbow striking, you want to strike towards either his chin; you can actually strike in right here, which is the pelvic muscle. Strike here, strike here. Now when you are striking under the chin, you want to make sure you drive it all the way up. Come right all the way up and that is the way he is going to feel it.
