First Draft Pitfalls of a College Paper

I'm Kari Wethington for expertvillage.com. Today we are going over how to write a college paper. These are some of the pitfalls that you can run into when you are writing your first draft. A lot of people start worrying too much of length at this point but it's really not important. Eventually if your professor gave you a specific length or certain word count, you are going to need to worry about it. But at this point, we are just really trying to get your ideas down and try to get those ideas flowing. Second don't second guess yourself too much in terms of grammar, spelling those things. We'll be checking later down the line and those many revisions we talked about. So don't worry too much about the details on grammar and things like that. Third make sure you are working on your outline. You put a lot of research into it and you really thought about the sequence of ideas. You want to make sure that you have a first draft while it's not perfect it does make some kind of logical sense from point to point. So really use that outline. If you find that part of the outline isn't perfect, that is fine just go back and revise it at this point. Make sure in general you are following that logical flow. Also make sure that you are using your resources, make sure that you are using quotes from your sources and of course, you're going to have to sight those sources. But make sure that your professor can see that you really did a lot of research and you know how to weave it to your own ideas and own thoughts. It's important to have a balance of those ideas.
