How to Choose the Topic of a College Paper

I'm Kari Wethington for expertvillage.com Today we are going over how to write a college paper. Some ideas for how to narrow down your topic start with a little bit of internet research. This is a good time in the process to consult the internet later down the line you are not going to want to rely to much on the internet because you never know what sources are reliable. For instance, online encyclopedias can be a good place to get some ideas flowing but you never know how accurate it is; you are always going to want to double check your sources there. Another thing you can do is type in a topic of what you are thinking about and see what kind of pages come up. There is often pages dedicated to a specific topic. Maybe by reading through those you can find something very narrow to focus on. Another great thing to do is just talk about your topic to your professor or other students in your class and see if they have some feedback. You can often get some great ideas just from other people, another source is the library where you will be staying a lot of time later gathering sources. But just use some preliminary research on the topics you might be interested in, look up some journals and see what other people had written about the topic. Maybe from there you can kind of start to narrow it down your focus and that is the first step in doing a great research paper.
