Hi, I’m Martha McHugh for expertvillage.com and I’m going to show you a doily that I enjoy making. I do it quite frequently. It is made with a crochet thread and on this one I am using a size 10 crochet needle. It is a steel crochet needle. For those of you who do not know how, I am making a slipstitch. It is very simple, easy to do and now the pattern calls for me to chain 8. If you will notice how I got it around in my fingers that gives you a nice tension. If it is too loose your stitch will be loose and sloppy. If it is nice and taut you will have a tight stitch. You don't want it too tight, but you want it to be an even tautness and you just grab your thread. This is called a yarn over, you pull through the loop and that is a chain and this one is like about eight chains. That’s about right. Then you are going to join the chain. You are going to slip through the beginning loop, yarn over, pull your thread through and you have got a circle well voilà.
