Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. What we want to talk about now is a way to keep our receiver on the same page as the quarterback. When he's running his route, sometimes, the quarterback may either get the ball tipped at the line, or he may slip, or he may just not get a good throw out and the ball may be under thrown. One thing you cannot do as a wide receiver, is once you see the ball is thrown short you can't let it come down to you or you can't just stand there and let it drop short. You have to try to come back to it. What will happen is if I'm the defensive back and this guy throws a short pass and the receiver doesn't come back for it, as a defensive back I'll be able to step in if he doesn't try to come back and get it. Sometimes, the receiver will have to turn into a defender. If the ball is under thrown and I come in as a defensive back this guy will have to come back and try to knock it out of my hands as I'm trying to pick it off. So, we want to make sure if the quarterback throws a short pass and our receiver is running out that he quickly picks it up and quickly comes back and gets it and then attacks the ball at it's highest point. It looks something like this (video demo). So, he under threw the pass, but the receiver picked it up, stepped toward the ball and got the ball instead of letting the ball come to him. You have to make sure that you always try to attack the ball at it's highest point.
