Diet Requirements in Competitive Judo

On behalf of Expert Village, I am Angel Perez with Champion Martial Arts in Miami, Florida. Today we are talking about competitive Judo. When you are training to compete in Judo for a tournament obviously there are weight divisions. How we get you ready to make your weight is the following: we first weigh you in, we see how close you are to whatever weight division it is that you want to compete in. We diet only and only if we are over our weight class. If we are over our weight class within two to three days before the actual weigh in, what we do is, we go on a strict grilled chicken and fish diet only, with water. We do not eat any sweets. We do not eat any meats. We eat some vegetables. Nothing white. No rice, no potatoes, no bread, obviously no donuts. If at the time of the tournament you are still over, what you do is, the last twelve hours we go on what we call a "crash" diet. No intake. No water, no food. Nothing for twelve hours prior to the weigh in.
