Hi, I'm Rick Tobey on behalf of Expert Village and this is Blues Progressions Part 3. Now a little trick you can do while playing a blues scale is incorporating the hammer and pull technique. In this case, for example, let's say we're on the, playing on the G string. The index finger is on the G string on the fifth fret. We can take our third finger on the G string on the seventh fret and we can hit the string, hammer it. And this would be called the hammer. But then we can also use that finger and you kind of pull it to get the note. This is a lot easier after you've been playing for a while and you build up calluses on your fingers. It might hurt a little in the beginning, especially if you're using heavy strings. On an acoustic guitar it's a lot easier on an electric guitar. But it's good to learn the technique on an acoustic guitar, it really strengthens your fingers. So this would be the hammer and pull. So to do an exercise with that, you can just go down each string in the scale. Another way to do it would be to use the pick in between every few notes, like every three notes, kind of like playing triplets. So that's a good technique to use when you're playing blues lead guitar.
