How to Play 'Tin Pan Alley' Chords on Guitar: Part 2

Hi, I'm Rick Tobey on behalf of Expert Village. This is Blue's Progressions part three. The chords used in this song ('Tin Pan Alley'), in A minor are the A minor chord, the D minor chord, the E minor chord, and also the E major chord with the seventh added. There are certain little embellishments which we can add to these chords, which you will see as we play it. The A minor chord is an open chord. The E string is played open, the A string is played open. Your second finger would be on the D string, second fret. Third finger is on the G string, second fret and the first finger is on the first fret of the B string and the high E string is played open. That's the first chord in the progression. The second chord in the progression is D minor. In this chord you would skip the low E string and start on the A string, which is open. The D string is played open. Your second finger would be on the second fret of the G string. Your third finger is on the third fret of the B string and your first finger is on the first fret of the E string. The E minor chord, the E string (the low E string) is played open. The second finger is on the second fret of the A string. The third finger is on the second fret of the D string. Then, at the end of the progression we are going to play an A major chord, or perhaps even add the seventh to it. In that case it's played the same as the E minor chord all except that you put your index finger on the first fret of the G string. To add the seventh you would take your little finger and put it on the third fret of the B string. So, those are the chords we use in this song. A minor, D minor, E minor, E and E seventh. In the next section we'll put the progression together, but first I'll demonstrate how you change between the chords.
