Kickboxing technique: punch combo

Hi my name is Tristan at the Austin Martial Arts Academy. We’re online at http://www.austinmartialarts.com. Okay, on this next video we’re going to put all the four punches together from the boxing, kickboxing series here. The first one was the jab, second one was the cross, we got a hook and we got an uppercut. So here’s the combination again, jab, now what I want to point out here is that you don’t pull the jab back and then throw the cross because then you lose the counter-pull or the momentum you build on the first punch. You pull that momentum back and then you drive the next punch out – that’s where you get whole body movement. This punch doesn’t come back and then you through the other, the work together. There’s the hook, just like we worked on rotating the foot. And now that I’m wound up and my spine has some kinetic energy build up in it I use that to drive the fourth punch. So it’s a flow, jab, cross, hook, uppercut and notice the body goes down a little bit each time. You don’t want the body to go up when you throw punches; you have no power and no stability. So here it is, down, down, corkscrew, up. Come back to a really good on guard position. You can hear the breath; you don’t want to hold your breath you’ll burn yourself out. On guard. And then go ahead and put your movements in, start that Rocker’s Shuffle we started on the first video. Whenever you punch you’ll want to stop. It’s hard to punch while you’re moving unless you’re Mohammed Ali.
