How to Finish a Reverse as a Receiver

Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. What we're talking about now is how to run a good reverse. We want to concentrate on what happens to the wide receiver, what does the wide receiver do once he gets the ball on the reverse. To start the reverse and get the ball to the wide receiver we start like always. We fake to the fullback, we're going to give it off to the running back and then the running back will hand down. Once the wide receiver gets the ball, you see he's covering the ball with both tips covered because he's still behind the line of scrimmage. We don't want him to have the ball out with one hand if somebody creeps through and hits him hard. Once he breaks the initial line of scrimmage and he's in open territory, then he can put the ball in one hand. Once we get this wide receiver coming down the line of scrimmage he has to have his head looking up the field to find out where he needs to break through. Does he need to cut back off the tackle through an opening or does he have to go a little wider? But, he has to be able to get his shoulders squared up and get north and south as quickly as possible. We don't want him running wide and stretching this play out all the way to the side lines and maybe losing yardage or only picking up one or two yards. We want him to be able to get up field and get as much positive yardage as possible.
