Hi, I'm Karen, for Expert Village. Now I'm going to put the needle in, and pivot, it's not going to work, so what I'll do is I'm going to knot this here and I'm going to remove my basting stitches. You want to remove the basting stitches and open the zipper so that we can complete this topstitching. I could not, when I got to here, I could not pivot my foot and continue my topstitching, so I want to open the zipper so that I have more room to do that. So just put the seam ripper underneath the stitches, and gently pull them out. Remove any of the excess thread as you go. Just pick out these broken threads - they should come out very easily. Okay, now we can open the zipper, and complete our topstitching. So place your needle right on the stitching line, you want to start a little bit further back so you can merge in the new stitches, and just do a little two or three stitches up and back to knot the threads, and then continue your topstitching and finish with a little back and forth to knot it, and trim your threads very close. And then go on the other side, and complete the topstitching there. Trim your threads nice and close without cutting the garment, and trim your threads all around, you don't want to have any loose threads or it looks sloppy. And there's your new zipper installation!
