Sewing Left Side for Invisible Zipper

Hi, I'm Karen, for Expert Village. Now we'll sew our left side of our skirt, we'll sew the invisible zipper on the left side, the left side of the zipper. And we're going to place it on the machine and line it up with the left, line the zipper teeth, up with the left side groove. Okay? So we're left, left, left, all the way. Okay, the left side groove, with the left side of the zipper tape, and the left side of the skirt, and we line it up just like that. Now, you want to have a regular stitch length and we're going to take a few stitches back and forth just to knot that a little bit and hold so that your threads won't come out, and to also check that, indeed, your needle is lined up perfectly with the teeth. You can see that the way that the groove guides the teeth, the needle comes down exactly beside the teeth, as close as you can possibly get to the teeth. And you just go ahead and sew on, letting the foot guide the zipper, and removing your pins as you go down. And just go slowly, the needle should never hit the teeth of the zipper, because of the guide. I'm using a red thread just for instructional purposes. You, of course, would use a thread that matches the zipper so you wouldn't see the threads. And just continue down nice and slow and you can see that it lines the zipper up just perfectly. And go as close as you can. When you get down to the zipper pull, and you can't go any further, just back that up a little to knot it, and remove it from your machine. So, we haven't sewn all the way down past the pull, we just sew as close to the pull as we possibly can. And that's our first side.
