I have been sewing for over 30 years, and my invisible zippers never looked as nice as I wanted. I watched this series twice, and installed my first perfect invisible zipper today. Thanks, Karen!

Materials for Invisible Zipper

Hi! I'm Karen for Expert Village. Here are some tools and materials you'll need to sew in your invisible zipper. You'll need an invisible zipper, of course. This looks flat on the front. You don't see any of the teeth, and it usually has a small dangle like that. On the back of the zipper, the teeth stick out like this. The front you don't see the teeth at all, and that's what makes it invisible in the end. You'll need an invisible zipper foot. It's almost impossible to install these invisible zippers without the special foot. Most manufacturers of machines will have an invisible foot that you can order. I got this one as a universal foot. It has a universal attachment, and you can buy the foot separately. You'll need a regular zipper foot to do some finishing. Some chalk maybe, or some kind of marking pencil, a ruler, scissors, pens, and of course your garment. You do not want to sew the seam. Most patterns will call for before installing the zipper, to sew the seam up to the zipper spot, and then continue basting. For the invisible zipper, you do not want to sew your 2 pieces of the garment together. You'll sew them together at the end. It looks like we have everything. Let's get started.
