Understand the Disadvantages of Bone Meal on Tulips
Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. Tulips are a beautiful flower in your garden and everything thinks well, when I garden I've got to have the right utensils, I've got have fertilizer, I've got have bone meal, I've got to do this, I've got to do that. Wait a minute, I've found in my experience you don't need any of that. All you need is compost. Bone meal is a product that's been used for years in our country and it does work, it adds a little bit of air underneath, it adds calcium which brings down nitrogen and the potassium and in a lot of the minerals that plants need. But, in my experience bone meal only encourages critters to dig it. It only encourages your cats, dogs, raccoons, any animal they smell it and they want to dig it up and if you think about it there's not a lot of difference between bone meal and protein powder and all the other artificial items that we can pick to use in our own diets. I'm kind of one of these people that believes we need to go back to nature and nature uses compost. Leaves, grass clippings, the dead flowers from last year. That's what you need to put on your beds. Bone meal can help, yes, but in the end it?s the real nutrition that your plant needs. By planting your tulips directory in compost, you really don't need any other additives except for water.
