My name is Brent Shelly with Expert Village and we are talking about lighting design today. A lot of high end residents have a separate room called a foyer. You are coming from the outdoor into the inside. The foyer is a place where you would greet your guest. So visual is pretty important task in this space. Another important task in teh foyer is eye adaptation. What happens when you come from the outside to the inside is the human eye means to adapt to that different varies light level. When you are going from a bright sunny environment to a darken environment such a movie theater in the middle of the day when you are late for the movie like me. Then you eye takes about 20 minutes to fully adapt to that light level and that is something to consider when doing lighting design. If you go from a really dark environment to a very bright environment such as when you exit the theater through the back door it take your eyes a lot less time to adapt to that high light levels. Sometimes you would actually experience a little bit of physical pain as your light adapts from that dark to that light environment. Eye adaptation is something that you need to consider especially when going from one extreme to another. Remember to use good controls and to control each of these layers separately so you can change the look and the ascetics of the space based on the function. Well that is about for today we have talked about lighting design and lighting designers.
