Quarterback Passing Drills for Conditioning

Hi, this is Sean Hobson for Expert Village. We're going to be working again with our quarterback and wide receiver. And this time we're going to run everybody's favorite route. The fly route. Now, if used effectively and you set this play up, this is a good play to run. This is where we're going to send our receiver; we're going to have him make a quick stutter step to make the defender think that he's breaking down. And then he's going to go long. And when he makes his decision to go long, we want our receiver to just keep running right down the field and look for the pass. The quarterback is going to throw the pass up and over the top, so that the defender can't cut the route off underneath. We want our receiver to be able to catch the ball and stay running. We don't want him to have to stop and come back for the ball. So it?s very important that you work on this a lot in practice, because its a very hard play to make. All right, here's what a fly route looks like. Probably you want to go anywhere from 15-25 yards on this fly route. And that right there was pretty well done. Our quarterback threw a good route, he didn't throw it to high so where the receiver had to wait for it to come down. And he was able to catch him in stride. So a good job there, that?s called the fly route.
