Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. We're going to work a little with our quarterbacks and receivers. These drills are usually used in the beginning of practice to warm up. They're also used before a game in order to get the quarterbacks and receivers on the same page. The first drill we're going to do will work on the slant. The good thing about the slant is that it's very hard to defend. It's a good way for you to get a quick 5 to 10 yards. The first slant route we're going to run is a quick 5 yard slant route. We're going to have our receiver run up about 5 yards, plant quick to the outside to get his defender thinking he's going on an out route, and then he'll come right back in with the quick slant and our quarterback will hit him on the lead with the throw. This is what a 5 yard slant route looks like (video demo). Usually a 5 yard slant route is called a quick slant. We can also run a 10 yard slant route deeper behind the linebackers if we see that the linebackers are creeping up. You can run these in a 5 yard route or a 10 yard route. The quarterback wants to make sure to try to lead them. Let's do one more and really lead him this time on a quick slant. That's a quick 5 yard slant route.
