Lower Body Stretching Tips for Football

Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. We want to stretch two more muscle groups. We want to concentrate on our quads and the calf muscles. The first muscle we're going to stretch out is the quad. There's a very easy way to do it when you have two guys to help you keep your balance and get a good stretch. They're going to place their hands on each other's shoulders and lift the leg from the foot. You want to pull up and give yourself a good stretch. You don't want to cheat yourself and go half way through this. You want to get a really good stretch of your quad muscle. They'll hold it for about a 12 to 15 count and then they'll switch sides. The switch their arms to keep the balance and hold for about a 12 to 15 count really pulling up to get a good stretch on the quad muscles. There are some other stretches you can do, such as, you can lay down and put one foot behind you and one foot out front and lay back. Sometimes that hurts a little and you need to be good and stretched to do that. The next stretch we'll do is to stretch your calf muscle. This is another of the muscle groups that people sometimes forget to stretch. We're going to have the guys lay down and put one foot behind them and push down on the heel with one foot while stretching out the calf muscle (video demo). Then you'll switch legs, put the other foot on top and push down. You'll be able to feel that calf stretching when you do this. Another way you can do this is, if you have a wall close, you can get up against the wall, put your heel down flat and that will also stretch out the calf muscle. That's the way you stretch out your quads and your calves.
