Etiquette for Importance of Raking a Sand Trap in Golf

Hi! I am Jason Wyatt, head golf professional at Sunnydale Golf & Country Club and on behalf of Expert Village.com, I am here to show you today how to properly rake a sand trap. A lot of people find themselves in bunkers on shots or approach shots to the green like I have here. So what I am going to do is step up, quickly hit a bunker and show you exactly what we have to do afterwards. There we go I have hit the bunker shot; you probably saw a lot of sand being displaced. What we have done is we have also made a mark and we have created a lot of footprints once we came in. One of the biggest things we want to remember is that when you come into a bunker, you always want to enter at the low side of the bunker instead of the high side. Reason being is the low side is the easy way of getting in and you do not displace so much sand when you are walking. So, what we are going to do is grab a trusty rake here and what we are going to do is we are actually going to smooth out the area that we were in. So I am going to take the rake, smooth out the mark and then we are going to smooth out our footprints. A lot of people we see when they rake just pull the sand to you. When they pull the sand to you, they get a bunch of sand here and they do not replace it correctly. So, make sure you push and even out that sand as you go through. Make sure you get all your footprints as you head out, make sure you are smooth, there we go. Once we have done that, place the rake to the side of the bunker and now you have provided the perfect surface for the next person that happens to come into the bunker to play out of it. Please remember to rake your sand traps.
