The Venting Stage of Dreaming

Hi, I'm Carmen Lynne with Expert Village. So now I'd like to talk to you about the final, and actually the most important stage of dreaming. If you remember, there are three stages, each stage is roughly 90 minutes long. This final stage is called the venting stage, and it happens just before you wake up in the morning. Have you ever had a dream just before you woke up in the morning that you felt was really quite negative and it kind of distressed you because you woke up thinking, now why did I have that dream? Well, I'm here to tell you that that is actually a good sign. If you have a dream where you're being chased, or you're frightened, or you know, some bad stuff is happening to you, that is actually an indication that your subconscious is venting out that fear that you have, or that anger or whatever emotion it may be. It's venting it out, it's saying oh it's okay I'm releasing this now. In a similar way too, you know how when you're venting out, when you're releasing toxins from the physical body, it really feels uncomfortable but once they've gone and it feels better. It's the same for the subconscious. It's venting out these kind of mental toxins, if you like, from the subconscious. Just before you wake up in the morning, and that is also, interestingly enough, the stage of dreaming that we tend to remember more frequently. So you'll find when you start keeping you're dream journal, that you're going to be probably remembering a lot of these venting dreams.
