Using a Firestarter for Wood-Burning Fireplaces

Hi! This is John again. Now that we have got the fireplace cleaned out of the ash, we will replace the grate back into the fireplace. Now what we will do is we want to have a kindling fire or a starting fire. What I have done is I have taken a sliver or a chunk off of the fire log; I have used an ax to do that and just take and put this underneath a piece of wood; this is a piece of wood that was left from last season. You want to get this burning hot to start your fire.
