Hi my name is Tristan and Carmalit at the Austin Martial Arts Academy. We’re online at http://www.austinmartialarts.com. Alright here’s the last kick in our series of kicks – this is called the spinning back kick. I’m going to coach again with the mitts, and then we’ll put Carmalit on the bag so you can see it both ways. In order to get this kick right, you’re going to spin your front foot and rotate your hips so that your back is exposed to the direction you’re going to kick. Then your head looks over your shoulder, and your leg that was in the back is your kicking leg, it goes straight through, boom, and then you’re going to put it down in front of you. And look at where you’re kicking, step back. Sometimes people kick and bring the leg back but that’s very hard to do. Okay. So here’s the kick on the mitts and she’ll put the leg down in the front. If you’ve got mitts and you want to know how to hold them this is a real easy way. This for the front kick spin it upside down for the back kick. Okay let’s put you on the bag. Spinning back kick on the bag. Notice how she puts the foot down right after she kicks. Hands stay up and she’s breathing. Spinning back kick.
Thank you ! You help me improve my technique . Really valuable video
I'm glad he observed that it's okay to land the kick in front of you, then (crescent) step that foot back, because it's difficult to do this kick and return it directly to the rear. I've been pushing myself to return it to the rear as the only right way, and it isn't necessary.
