How to Clean a Chimney for Wood-Burning Fireplaces

Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. Now what I am going to do is show you another aspect of what you need to do is get ready for the firewood season. Here I am on top of my roof of my home and what I will do I will be taking off the cap here on this chimney. I have a brush that you can get at your local hardware store, Home Depot or Lowe’s, where ever. This is designed, to run the brush up and down, there is weight attached to it. What this will do is these bristles will brush off the soot that is on the interior of the chimney walls. You want this cleaned off before you start your new firewood burning from the last season, because you do not want to build up a creosote which can cause a chimney fire. You know if you have to have good fire going one night and also the creosol in the chimney could ignite, so you want to have this cleaned off before you start the winter season for burning.
