Paper Dolls: How to Cut Out a Paper Doll

Hi! This is Brenda and today we are working on our project of paper dolls. Now for this project we only need a few items; some hard stock and index cards are fine. You can find those in the school supply department. We need some scissors and a Sharpie. Now I am just going to draw out a form. If you do not feel comfortable doing this you can get something from the magazine and trace around it but I am just going to do mine freehand. I did some earlier so I am just going to around it in my Sharpie like this; just make a simple form like this. Also if you have got some gingerbread cookie cutters, you can use those to use as user guide and you would just draw around it like this with our Sharpie, just a very simple figure like this. Now we are going to go and take our scissors and just going to cut out what we just drew. You know paper dolls have been around a long time. They actually started in Paris in about the 18th Century and in the pioneer times they also had paper dolls and paper was scarce back then, so sometimes the children were unable to use paper for toys but if they were lucky enough to have these paper dolls, they stored them in a special box or either in between book pages to keep them safe. So paper dolls have been around a long, long time. They are lots of fun for little girls and this is a great Sunday afternoon activity. This does not take very long and they can get just very creative with the clothing that they make and later put on hair and eyes to embellish the little figure that we made and here is our doll that we are going to begin with today.
