How Much Does it Cost to Own Pets?

Hi my name is Tim Labelle; this is my wife April Labelle. We are the owners of Pet Barn Exotics in Hartland Michigan. We are here on behalf of Expert Village to help you choose the right pet. In this segment we will be talking about budget and expenses. With any animal that you purchase you always have the chance of having to take them to the vet, even a snake, a small snake, small hamster, dwarf hamster, bird, mouse, rat, reptiles, they all, all have the chance of having to go to the vet. You have to think of bedding, they all need bedding, they have to have, you have to get their place to stay, toys, food, treats. Now when you're looking at reptiles it's a little more expensive than hamster. You have to look at the proper lightning, the proper heat, the proper bedding, the proper enclosure, their habitat. That all changes with different kinds of reptiles. Every reptiles has to have UVB bulbs, they also have to have light heat, the night heat, the day heat, heat rock or heat pad. That can start to get a little expensive depending on what size geranium that you have them in and all of them eat everyday, you have to have food for them everyday, bedding for their cages they have to be clean out and replaced. Sand for reptiles, bark, aspen. Don't ever use cedar for any animal besides dogs, and outside for their kennels outside that's because allergies. Dogs are the only ones that can handle the cedar. Cedar causes sever upper respiratory problems for small animals and cedar is also a natural flea repellent for dogs and cats.
