Hi, my name is Tim Labelle, this is my wife April, we are the owners of Pet Barn Exotics in Heartland, Michigan. We are here on behalf of Expert Village to help you choose the right pet. In this segment, my wife April will be discussing with you who is going to be caring for the animal. Is it going to be you or is it going to be your children? If it's going to be your children, then you need to find something that's going to be the easiest for your kids to take care of. Mom's always end up being the ones to clean up after the animals. When you get an animal, make sure, because a lot of cases when this happens, the animal always ends up getting neglected. You have to have your child interact with taking care of the animal and cleaning up after the animal and that's a big part of interacting with that animal. If they're being responsible enough to clean up and feed and water it, then you know that they'll give them the attention and the care that they need with having an animal. Make them responsible, make them, if they want an animal bad enough then they should be the ones to take care of it but a hamster, a dwarf hamster is probably the easiest that you can get for a small child, or a reptile, like a bearded dragon, a small corn snake, a mouse, rats are the best, rats are the best small animal pets that they can have because they can interact with them a lot more than any other animal. Then that's going to make them want to take care of it more and feed and make sure it's fed and watered and clean up after it. In conclusion of the segment, owning a pet is a very big responsibility for your child, I believe that it's one way of training, teaching, excuse me, teaching your children responsibilities and compassion for the life of other animals and other beings on this earth.
