Using Release on a Synthesizer

Hi, I'm Ben Anderson with Expert Village. And I'm here today to talk to you about release on a keyboard and how it will affect your sound. The release will determine how long the sound will be heard after it's played. For example, if I'm playing a pad sound here, sustains and holds on for a few seconds. Now, if I adjust the release and if I turn the release all the way down, and then I play the same thing, it cuts off immediately. So, by turning the release down, that then stops the sound as soon as I am done playing it. Now, to go back to where we were, normally that's how the initial sound would normally release at the level set at 0. Now, if I turn the release all the way up to the opposite end, and I play the same chord and I let go, the sound holds on for a lot longer than it normally did before. That's one of the many different functions that you can do with release.
