The next thing that we need to talk about are tools, and your local pottery supply store sells little packets of everything you need to get going. But some of the things I have right here, like a wire tool. This is to cut your clay up into sections, and we'll be covering that in just a minute. And it comes with a sponge, a little round sponge. This is a needle tool, this is what I call a wooden knife. This is our friend - a lot of people are afraid of this, but this is our friend, and I'll show you this in just a little bit. This is probably one of my favorite tools. They call these rivs. They come in wooden, plastic, my favorite is this metal one because it's flexible, and you can use it to form your clay, to get a little roundness to it, or flat, and take some of the slurry off your pot also. The other one that I like to use, especially for bowls, is your basic cd, and we'll get to that later too. Some of the trimming tools, there's a lot of trimming tools out there. Again, this is my favorite, but you want a nice sharp, not too sharp that it cuts your finger, but that it takes clay off. And through time, the more that you trim, it does dull them and then you've got to go out and buy some new ones, sold separately. And you have some bigger ones, and they're all different shapes and sizes. Each one takes off a little bit more, does a little bit different technique to use it. But, with that said, the next thing we're going to show you is how to cut up your clay, decide what to throw, and how to throw it.
