This is Linda Brown on behalf of Expert Village. Another point to consider when choosing a dance studio for your child is dance recitals. Most studios choose to have an end of year performance or a dance recital. You need to find out does this studio have one. If so, you might want to just find out if it's optional. I encourage all of my dancers to participate in the dance recital. Dance is a performance art. You want them to participate. However, some children are simply not comfortable with it and you don't want them to dread dance classes because they know what's coming. You want to give them that option if they simply don't want to participate. Another thing you want to consider is the costumes. Costumes can be costly. If your child is in more than one class, they have more than one costume that they have to pay for. Ask the studio what the average costume price is and how many costumes you could expect to purchase for the classes you're considering. Another thought is the age appropriateness of the costumes. Most studios are pretty good in making decisions about age appropriateness. Some fail. You want to find out if that's a concern for them. For me, I don't want to see a child at 4 years old in a costume that's inappropriate for that age. Nor do I want to hear music that's inappropriate for them. Find out. Look at pictures of previous recitals. See if you're comfortable with the choices that have been made for those studios. Also, you want to find out about tickets. Some studios will give a certain amount of tickets per dancer for their family. On top of that, the general admission will have to pay for tickets. You want to find out what amount of tickets are available for each dancer. If you have a large family, you're going to want plenty of tickets for your family.
