This is Linda Brown on behalf of Expert Village. The next tip that I'd like to discuss with you in discovering which studio is best for your child is class size. Some studios as they gain popularity grow their classes so large that it really is not working for the individual dancer. You want to find out how large the classes are. A very large class presents several problems. You have increased opportunities for discipline issues just simply because the teacher cannot teach and handle discipline issues in a large group. You have various degrees of ability in a large group, and then the teacher has to decide what level to teach to. If the class is too large, many of the fundamental concepts can be lost in teaching. A smaller class allows the teacher to ensure that the dancers are not developing bad technique. As we said before, you do not want your child to have to unlearn improper technique. Are there caps on class size? This is a specific question that you can ask either the owner of the studio or the particular teacher.
