This is Elise Paffrath from Breeze Thru Agility. I am talking today on behalf of Expert Village.com. We are talking about teaching dogs agility. One of the favorite obstacles of a dog, most dogs, are the tunnel and it is the one of the first things I introduce to my beginner students. The tunnel is an enclosed space but the dogs for some reason really love doing it. So I introduce the dog, here by having them sit, Sit and then going to the other side and calling them through, Okay, Shoot. Good girl!. I let the dog have a toy reward or a treat. When the dogs get more experienced you can begin to curve the tunnel and make it longer, that way the dog doesn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but they still have to proceed to the end. Ready. Shoot. Okay. also you want to practice sending your dog to the tunnel from a little bit of an angle and from further back, Ready!, Behind. Behind. Okay. Shoot. Once dogs get running full courses, they love nothing better than to barrel ahead through the tunnels.
