The Easiest Gardens to Maintain
Hi, this is Yolanda VanDeen, on behalf of Expert Village. We're talking about flower gardening and the easiest gardens to maintain. In my experience, raised flower beds are where it's at. You don't have to dig down deep, you don't have to figure out what of soil you have. You just add soil. And you can do it in a small garden, one foot by one foot, or you can do it in an acre and a half, and just set beds all over the garden. The reason raised beds are the easiest to maintain is because weeds don't grow very quickly in them, because they are raised and there are lots of plants right there. You can reach into them easily, and they are pretty much maintenance free. Pretty much, if a plant is green, leave it be; if it's a brown, cut it out. And it's pretty much all I have to do. It's pretty like throwing a party, too. Again, the funnest parties I've ever gone to are the ones where you show up, and there's a big potluck buffet, with all kinds of your favorite foods. They have an area and a table with every kind of alcohol you can imagine on it. And you are free to select your own. You can get all the food you want. You can make your own drinks. And you can kind of inter-mix with everybody. And I think that's the way to do it with the garden, too. You can mix plants around... you can always move them around later. Add compost, add water when they're wilting, but outside of that, it's really not your responsibility for them to have a good time. It's up to them. As long as you give them food, which is compost, and water, which is beverages, let them be. Next we'll talk about the best sun and shade plants and where to plant them.
