Building a Figure Painting Foundation

Hi I'm David Clemen on behalf of Expert Village and today we are going to paint with acrylics the female figure. Alright so now that we've got our lighter areas kind of laid out what we can do is we can come in and just build, I can even bring this red in here and just put a little dollop there. You have to be very careful with red and mixing that in, I mean you are talking about a corner, just a smidgen of what you have already got because once we start adding those kinds of colors, like I said before, it is harder to come back out of that once you go there. I am just going to soften up this shoulder a little bit now that I have brought that red in there and now you'll see it, just that little dollop of red has kind of blasted it into a whole new darkness but it didn't take much, it was the corner of the brush, but we are building our foundation and we are going to build up to the really dark areas and one thing that you really don't want to use you don't want to use paint out of the tube. You kind of want to mix it and soften it up. Sometimes the colors are really good that you get but with these basic acrylics you are probably going to mix in some white or something else to make it a little bit darker. You can see that I am starting to build these areas and we are starting to get some depth and that is what we are doing with the red.
