Drawing a Figure on Canvas

Hi I'm David Clemen on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to paint with acrylics the female figure. Before we start we have to kind of lay it out how we want it to be on the canvas to fill it up. So when we are using paints, the way you want to build the can this is, you want to start with your lighter colors first which will be in this case yellow mixed with some white. We'll want it very light and once I put that on the palate then I will basically draw it out with a paint brush just very loosely so I can start the painting. And kind of get a better idea of where I"m going to lay things out. I'm just putting a little dollop of yellow there and I'm just going to put a little bit of white over here. And I'm just going to take one of my smaller brushes which is.....I'll chose this one because it's small and I guess this would be a . Well, it doesn't say which size it is. But it's about a quarter of inch wide and so I'm just going to dip a little bit of water and then I'll get off all the excess. I'll get a little bit of yellow and a little bit of white. And then I'll just loosely, very loosely, I mean, I almost want more white than yellow. I"m just using this to kind of lay out my painting here. So I'm just going to kind of indicate the hat. Kind of pick up the face here. And the nose. I'll get just a little bit of more paint and head comes in here. And the ear actually looks really large there but it's just kind of the angle. I'm going to lightly indicate the hand. A little yellow because it's getting a little washed out at this point. Just going to indicate where I"m at and rise into the figure. Maybe get another little dip of water here. And then the shoulder's coming down like this. And more yellow and this shoulder kind of comes out this way. And then her feathers here. O.k. and so you proceed to do this. And so you get your composition how you want. And then from there we will start to paint the skin and the flushing we'll build from there.
