Readyness to Fly Ultralight Trike

CHAD BASTIAN: Hi. This is Chad Bastian. Welcome to Expert Village. We're here to talk about the trike buggy and PPG triking with paragliders. All right. In this clip, we're going to talk about being ready to fly. So, Joe calls you up and he says, "We're going to be out there Tuesday morning 6 a.m." And you show up at Tuesday morning 6 a.m., you pull your motor out, and you realize, "Oh, yeah. I needed to tighten the belt, or I need to replace this or that." And so, you start working on your motor and Joe's there going, "Hey, you know, we're going flying." We're not coming here to work on our motors." So, before you go out to fly, make sure you've worked on your stuff and you got it in good repair; your motor, your wing, if you've got broken lines, get them replaced, get it fixed; if you need an inspection on your glider, be ready to fly. Don't show up needing to work on your stuff at that point in time, get yourself mentally prepared, but also really get your gear ready, have it in topnotch condition, be ready for that optimum flying condition where you're not having to sit and work on your motor while everybody else goes flying. In preparing to be ready to fly, one of the big things you want to check in the morning is the weather. You don't want to just blindly go out to wherever you're going to fly and say, "It's going to be good." Just do a little checking, look for fronts or gradients on the wind map and see if you're going to have a windy day or a nice day. Look at the winds aloft. Look at some of your forecasts and even some of the observations of what's going on out there with weather. Also, don't go flying by yourself, go with a buddy. Always have someone that you're going with or at least, an observer who can be in the area while you're flying. Don't fly alone, it's dangerous enough. Let's do it with somebody and make sure we get covered if something happens. Also, let's check our skill level. Are we current or have we not been flying for months? Do we need to practice some of our taxi and launch techniques or are we really confident to go flying and do that?
