Paraglider Practice on the Ground

Welcome to Expert Village. My name is Hugh Murphy with Surf the Sky Paragliding. In this clip, we'll talk about ground handling attached to your motor. So, you've already had time practicing balancing the wing over your head, holding the break handles, pulling it up with the 'A' risers. Now, we're going to add the weight of the motor. We're not going to spin the propeller yet by turning it on. But, we'll add the weight of the motor and the high hook up point of the motor. The main thing that the pilot will feel once the risers are hooked into the motor is with the higher hook up point, the controls are going to be slightly higher both the brake handles as you're controlling the brake of the wing and then the 'A' risers as you're pulling the wing up. Simply be prepared to have your hands higher over your shoulder as you're doing the same ground handling controls. I've had several new students ask me about the reverse pull up with the motor on and concerned about wrapping lines. But, what happens is as you pull the paraglider up, the risers are from here approximately arms length and the lines are well above your hands so that when you turn for the reverse launch you're well cleared of the lines.
