Outlets that use the 'push and lock' method of connecting the wires have been shown to have a higher potential for starting electrical fires. The spring clip that holds the wire in place loses tension over time, which worsens the electrical connection. This can lead to a poor connection, which leads to ohmic heating of the connection which can become white-hot. Only outlets using screw type connections should be used.
