Hi I'm Jabari Pride and we're back with ExpertVillage.com and we're going to talk about injuries now. Okay, we're going to talk about how to avoid injuries and what to do when you do get injured. Okay, one of the main things you want to do to avoid an injury is to warm up. You want to warm up, warm up, and warm up. You want to make sure your muscles are warm and you want to make sure you're hydrated. You want to make sure that you've eaten well, not just the day of your event but also the day before you're event. This thing called carbo-loading which means you want to eat a lot of carbohydrates the night before you're competing in that specific event so that way the carbs will burn will stay in your system giving you energy the next day. So you really want to stay hydrated, you really want to warm up and you want to carbo load the night before and the day of, it's okay to you know, eat some like a, maybe like bagel the morning of or you know keep some of those like sports bars and eat those throughout the day. You don't want to be chowing down on a, a Big Mac 30 seconds before you're getting ready to compete. Okay, so that's one of the things to do to avoid injuries. Now when you are injured, you want make sure that, I mean, if you can definitely go see a physical therapist and they'll let you know, or a trainer, they'll let you know when to come back. But if you don't have those means, you want to make sure that when you feel that you're able to even just start warming up, that you warm up slowly. You don't just, you get injured on Tuesday, Thursday you think you're okay, so Friday you go out and start hitting it really hard. You're going to re-injure yourself. You want to make sure that you warm up slower than what you normally do and if it feels okay then you can move on to the next step. So if you warm up and you feel okay to do your jog, than you go into your stretching. Now if you do stretching and you still feel okay, you can go into your drills. And once again you don't want to just start doing your explosive drills just as hard as you were doing them before, you want to start off slower and then building up the intensity as you're doing your drills. And if you then feel okay, you can go on and you know, possibly do your event. If you feel fine, then I guess you are no longer injured. So those are some things to think about and consider when you're injured and to get over that injury.
