How to Safely Warm Up for Track & Field

Hi, my name is Jabari Pride and we're back with expertvillage.com. We just going to talk about some more safety issues dealing with just with warming up for your track and field event. Okay, one of the things you really want to do is you want to be aware of your surroundings. That is one of the most important things you can do when warming up, because if you can't make it through your warm up because you weren't aware of what's going on around you, you're not going to make it to your event. Certain things like, when you're on a track, if there's other people competing too, they're going to be warming up where, where you are going to be warming up. So if you are on a field, and you just you know, you're doing your drills and you're going along, you want to make sure you're looking around. Because someone else can be doing different drill where they can be running with their head down, they look up, they see you, you didn't see them, and they could just plow right through you if they're not paying attention. I've seen it happen on at championship meets where people were warming up. Official wasn't paying attention, the person warming up wasn't paying attention and they plowed through you know, older people just walking across the track not paying attention. Another thing you want to do, headphones. When you're on the track infield, which is a grass infield on the track, and there's throwing events like the discus, the javelin or the shot put going on, you don't want to have your headphones on. I think they made it illegal now, but if you know, when you are at a track and no one says anything you don't want to have your headphones on. I've seen people get hit in the head with a discus because they had their headphones on. Everyone else ran away, they didn't hear what was going on and they got it in the head with the discus. Ambulance had to come, you know, take them off. Person lived, but I mean, you want to save yourself the ambulance trip. Don't wear your headphones when you're on the infield. Just another basic thing, when you're running on the streets, you want to look left, you want to look right, when you cross the street. It sounds easy, it sounds dumb for me to even say it, but back in the 2000 Olympics, a lot of people didn't realize that when you're in Australia, you know, people drive on the other side of the road. So they're use to looking left when they cross the street, someone was jogging, they looked left, they didn't see any cars coming, they, you know, ran into the street, a car came from the right, and you know, that person, you know, their life was taken away from them. And I mean they finally make it to the Olympics, and you know just from not paying attention, just looking both sides of the street to see if any cars were coming, you know, they were unfortunately killed. So you want to make sure that you are aware of your surroundings so that way you can actually make it to your event. Thank you.
